Equip Our Future Leaders Campaign

Anlo Afiadenyigba
 Volta Region, Ghana

As part of the activities of Florence John Foundation (FJF) to extend a-helping-hand to the deprived and less-endowed in our society, on the 20th day of May, 2017, Florence John Foundation (FJF) donated about 1,000 books and 300 pens to 150 pupils (60 in form 1, 45 in form 2 and 45 in form) from E.P. and Roman Catholic schools all situated in the Anlo Afiadenyigba community.
The ceremony began with a welcome address by the current Assembly member of the area, Hon. Gilbert Korbla Keklie, who also doubles as the Founding president of Local Community
The leader of the FJF team in Ghana, Haneef Kwesi Keelson, delivered a speech prior to the donation event. In his speech, he made mention of how initially the foundation provided financial assistances to individuals but later changed to reaching out to the mass since its birth in February, 2015. He also made mention of some donation which the team has embarked on which includes; donation of used clothes from donors from the United States to about 800 indigenes (toddlers, children, adolescent and the old – doth make and female) of Kitare Desani, a deprived local community in the Nkwanta North of Volta Region and also donations of consumables (milk, milo, drinks, and others) worth GH ¢3,000.00 to the Autism children at Dzowulu special school in Accra. He mentioned that, the purpose of today’s donation was to;
1) To send a signal to these pupils on the importance of education, not only to them but also, to their parents, community and the nation at large
2) To let them know how fortunate they are to be enrolled in school, and hence, they are obliged to give their very best towards their studies and finally
3) To relieve the parents of the beneficiary pupils off the financial burden of providing books; so
parents can concentrate on the other needs of the pupils
All 150 received books and pens, the best pupils in each form receive extra books and the teachers also had their share.
Rekia Fuseini, a member of the team, took turn to give the pupils some words of encouragements. She made mention to them of how important education is, to an individual, the community and the nation. She suggested to the pupils that, the only way we can show appreciation to our parents for their efforts to enroll us in school and to their teachers is by putting great efforts into our studies and becoming great future leaders in our society. She also advised the girls to concentrate on the studies and eschew having sexual relationships that could result in teenage pregnancies – causing them to be school drop outs.
Both the Chief of the area and the representative of the Director of education also took turn to advise the pupils. He advised them to make good use of the books and make the entire community and well as the FJF proud – for donating the books to them. By doing so, may encourage Florence John Foundation to do more for them or other charitable NGOs to do same.
The books were then donated to the various pupils after the speech of the Chief. The donation was done as follows;
 Those in form 1 had 7 books and 2 pens each
 Those in form 2 had 5 books and 2 pens each and
 Those in form 3 had 3 books and 1 pen each.
 The best pupils for each form had 3 books each
 Teachers of both schools had about 25 books each and some pens.
 The team also donated some books and pens to a disabled girl, Rubi, who was a member of the team that entertained us (the audience) with a chorographic dance.
 A few were given to the Chief, the representative of the Director of Education and the Honorable members who graced the occasion with their presence.
