Kitare

Clothe the Naked

Kitare Desani,
 Volta Region, Ghana

The project implementation journey began on the 28th day of May, when two representatives from the Florence John Foundation team in Ghana paid a courtesy call on the Chief and Elders of Kitare Desani, a socially deprived community in the Northern Volta.

The Chief and Elders welcomed us with great joy. After a thorough consultation with them, an agreement was made to do the donation on the 18th day of June, 2016.

A team of six members from FJF Ghana, embarked on the exercise. The program started by acknowledging the presence of some prominent persons who graced the occasion, as custom demands. In attendance were; the Chief, his Elders, both current and past – immediate Assembly Men, youth group and women’s groups

Challenge

We had doubled the number captured during the last census in 2010. We had about 800 people of which;

• 50% were males (both young and old)
• 20% were females (both young and old) and
• 30% were children (both male and female)

The exercise began as planned but the FJF team had to re- orient the distribution strategy to make the exercise easier and finish
on time, so the community indigenes could attend to other matters, especially, as it was a market day too

Outcome

In spite of the bad and dusty road, the team never gave up and executed the project. The reception from the community was beyond our expectation. They also showed immense gratitude to FJF for the items. And, looked forward to another donation exercise. They thank both the donors and FJF team for not only remembering them but also, the kind gesture.
